J.Holiday

There are no mirrors or tricks here, no sleight of hand. When J. Holiday talks earnestly of “following my dreams” and “being in love with music,” it’s not a deliberately sympathetic portrayal by a partial writer. In fact, J.’s talent is matched -in rarity and intensity—only by his enthusiasm. His candor and vulnerability are refreshing, given the static, formulaic state of R&B. The question most are asking, though, is where did J. Holiday come from? The answer is short, but runs deep: D.C. And while D.C.’s trademark sounds breed musicianship- “so many talented cats playing go-go or in church”—the city remains untapped. But it’s home, and home, for J. Holiday, is where the art is. He was born into a musical family; mother Frances, one of 11 siblings, sang gospel with her 5 sisters, while his older sister supplied backing vocals for Crystal Waters. “Music was always around me and I just wanted to do it,” he recalls. But his first performances were as much coercion as inspiration: “When I was nine, ten years old, my older male cousins would always tell me to sing to girls passing by on the street. It was later that I realized they were exploiting me.” So by age ten, J. Holiday was finding his voice. Within a year, however, he was struggling to find his way. “My Pops died when I was eleven,” he states flatly. “He was sick and didn’t tell anybody. Not even my Mom. She never knew what was going on until he died.” “A lot of people think he’s still alive because of the way I talk about him,” Holiday segues. “A lot of the struggling that I’ve been through was because of that situation. Nobody was prepared for it. My mom, that’s my best friend. But looking back, everything happens for a reason. That’s what got me here.”

Picking up the pieces, the remaining family bounced around the D.C. area; J. attended three different high schools in four years. “On top of not having my father, it was harder for me because my mom was a preacher,” J. admits. “So I knew I couldn’t go to her about certain things. It was like trial and error; I had to learn a lot on my own, and that’s how I ended up messing with the streets. And the streets actually kept me from going down the wrong path. People always assume that the hood is going to steer you wrong. I always had people in the hood, to this day, who wanted to keep me out of trouble. They couldn’t be my dad, but they told me what it was: advising me to think, to be smart.”

J. identifies two catharses along his creative odyssey: a 9th grade talent show, wherein he flexed his wares, and his discovery of Marvin Gaye: “I was just listening to songs that I loved. Then I found out that all the songs were by the same guy. That was a main trigger for me, getting hip to Marvin. He led me to Donny Hathaway and Al Green.” Channeling these staples with newer ensembles -Jodeci, Boyz II Men, even OutKast— J. eventually formed a trio called 295, named for the famed thoroughfare between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland.

Lindo P & Band, Hit's the Stage ToNight @Seven44 -744 MT. Pleasant Rd

The "Official" Biography of Lindo P a.k.a. Lindissimo

Biography (bi•og•ra•phy)

An account of a person's life written, composed, or produced by another.

Forget a “biography”. This is the official “Life-ography” of Lindo P a.k.a. Lindissimo.

Toronto boasts some outstanding multi-hyphenates. Lindo P is rated among the best.
• Reggae DJ/Selector (read as: rips it both behind and in front of the booth)
• Recording Artist (read as: uses his voice to make di gyal dem bruck out)
• Songwriter (read as: master of lyrics, even the notepad bows in his presence)
• Dancehall/Foundation Ambassador (read as: helps di youth dem nah forget about their roots).

Humble Beginnings

Hailing from St. Ann County Jamaica, Lindo and his family (and clearly 40,000 others) immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in search of “the greener grass” they always say is on the other side. Not known for “conformist” education, Lindo attended not one, but several Toronto high schools which afforded him the opportunity to explore his musical craft AND anchor himself within the distinct Canadian-Caribbean community (after all, weren’t 40,000 others trying to do the same thing?) This is where Greatness began.

The Long Trek into town

Having teamed up with fellow Toronto reggae artist Blessed in the early 80’s, they became known as Poison Ivy. By the late 80’s, Lindo P joined a DJ sound crew called Lone Star which debuted at Club Hollywood in Toronto (well-known in its day). In the 90’s, Lindo P gained explosive notoriety with the infamous Red Flame Sound crew (and if by that time, you didn’t know who he was then you were living under a rock.) As part of Red Flame, he flattened clubs like “Spectrum”, “Copa” and “The Beat” (which you young cats know as Sheppard Station or even Pete’s Place) alongside world-renowned reggae sound crew from Jamaica - Stone Love, Heat Wave, and recording artist Spragga Benz (Jack it Up, Machine Gun Kelly). When Heat Wave recruited Lindo P in 1997, the doors opened wide where Lindo deejayed alongside reggae superstars: Bounty Killa, Sizzla, Luciano, Lady Saw, Barrington Levy, Coco Tea, Baby Cham and Capleton. We call this “The Trek” because Lindo performed from as far west as Vancouver to as far east as New........Jersey. (Easy! We still workin’ on Tokyo, hush nah man).

The Bend in the Road

Jah Cure Sound approached Lindo, to which a short relocation back ah Yard (read as: moved to Jamaica) took place. Here, he focused on developing his singing and performing career in efforts to step out from behind the turntables. Disk jockey come Singer/Songwriter – enter Lindissimo. Lindo’s flava was fresh, hype, authentically Jamaican, and his fan base in his beloved Toronto exploded. Artists of all genres wanted to have the adrenaline boosting sound of Lindo P’s lyrics and delivery on their records, and alongside them on the stage. His newfound partnership with Timeless Entertainment Inc. helped to garner him the 2007 Rogers Stylus Reggae DJ of the year Award. No small feat for a youth from St. Ann’s.

The Tree that gets water, bears fruit

Lindo successfully carved himself out an incomparable niche in the Urban sub (read as: club) culture. Whether as Lindo P the deejay, or as Lindissimo the stage controlling performer, he channelled greatness and inspiration from Bob Marley, Sizzla, Luciano and life itself; Lindissimo lives in the studio hammering track after track and anthem after anthem. Now having performed as a singer with his old partner Blessed, Frank ‘n Dank, Danny O, and home-grown hip-hop superstar, Konvict Muzik’s Kardinall Offishall. Lindissimo was invited by Kardinal Offishall to join ‘The Black Jays” which is a group of international top urban artists, who headlined the 2009 Toronto Urban Music Festival at the Canadian National Exhibition. Other standout performances include: The Toronto Reggae Music Festival (invited by Ron Nelson), Dundas Square (invited by the Scotiabank Caribbean Festival Association) and the Toronto International Street Festival. Lindissimo has also opened up for some of the biggest acts in Reggae music such as Luciano, Beenie Man, Sizzla and Baby Cham, just to name a few.

The Fruits

Lindissimo’s music has been featured on:

• DJ Whoo Kid (50 cent’s DJ) mixed CD which was released in September 2006 in Toronto and New York
• Riddim Driven Higher Octane compilation album produced by Black Chinney and distributed by VP Records released in 2006.
• Cipher Sounds radio mix show Hot 97 (New York)
• Flow 93.5 (Toronto) in regular rotation
• 88.1 CKLN (Toronto) Friday Nights “Reggae Mania” with Ron Nelson and Monday mornings for “Morning Ride Show”
• 105.5 CIUT Thursday mornings on “The Island Explosion Show”
• In addition to all of that he can be seen and heard on a great number of mixed CD’s, albums, radio commercials, music videos and magazines in Canada and in various parts around the world.

Recent Harvests

• In 2008 – Lindo P a.k.a. Lindissimo toured with Kardinal Offishall and The Black Jays
• Performed for MTV Asia
• Performed at Hot 97 Summerfest
• Collaborated with the Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, and Keri Hilson
• March 2009 – First commercial single and video – “Let’s Get Married”
• September 2009 – Official Beenie Man North American tour deejay

Lindo P a.k.a. Lindissimo is a born Warrior, who when he says “Bun up, bun up, bun up, bun it up”, I am hastily reaching in my pocket to find a child-safe lighter to show my love and respect.

These Sleeping A&R's Better Sign Humble before Chris BlackWell or Major Country Music Label Get a Hold of this HomeGrown Reggae Star - Started !!! !

International JUNO Reggae Star - Humble - @ REGGAE FOUNDATION 3.0 - June.18

HUMBLE....
2009 Juno Award Winner-Reggae recording of the year!
Biography
Born Simon Jonathan Vassell in the small township of Redditch England to Jamaican-born parents, Humble was exposed to music at an early age. The sweet sound of reggae music had hypnotized the youngster by the tender age of three after hearing a song by an American-born reggae artist named Johnny Nash called "Tears on my Pillow". "I would sing the song to anyone willing to listen".

Humble's parents then returned to Jamaica . "My mother was born in St.Elizabeth so anytime I went back it was there I would go, love the country".

Humble moved with his family to Toronto when he was three. In grade three Humble took the mandatory musical aptitude test and later learned he had scored the highest percentage in his entire school. "Hearing a note sequence or a tone and retaining it in my head was very easy, just have to hear it once". As he entered his adolescence years Humble's parents had divorced and he moved to the community of Rexdale. Staying out of trouble wasn't too hard as his reserved and quiet demeanor gained curiosity and respect from those around him.

When Humble was in his late teens he bought a guitar and found his passion in creating music and his own unique sound. So far Humble's journey has caused him to meet many artists and people in the music industry.

In October 2005 Humble released his debut album titled "Hard To See" on the Soundcheck Records label. Humble has opened for many international artists such as Junior Kelly, popular dub poet Mutabaruka, Tony Rebel, and roots reggae's legendary Abyssinnians to name a few.

At the present time Humble is working towards collaborating with some of Toronto's top reggae artists to help build the reggae reputation in Canada. Humble has worked with many of Trinidad and Tobago's reggae artists such as Jamelody, Prophet Benjamin and Khari Kill.

Humble has also appeared on the Rogers Television Network talk show 'Daytime' in Toronto. Humble was also apart of the highly successful production of "Tribute to the Legends" organized by fellow Juno nominated artist Odel in February 2007.

2007 has proven to be quite a successful year for reggae artist Humble. To start the year off the singer/songwriter earned a Juno nomination for his debut album "Hard to See", followed up by awards for Artist of the Year and Album of the year at the 2007 Reggae Achievement Awards. Having three songs air on different episodes of "Da Kink In My Hair" and add stage performances in Jamaica (St. Mary Mi Come From), Montreal (Reggae Festival), Calgary (Reggae Festival), and most recently performances in Japan all while completing his sophomore album under the Palm of Gold recording label. There's clearly no stopping this Lion as he's set to conquer in 2009.

It's clearly not Hard to See that this rasta youth is definitely going places.

'Everything'

Is an album filled with a roots reggae theme with touches of honest heartfelt written songs of hope, love and redemption for all people searching for a brighter outlook on life. "Life is Everything" is the main motto of Humble's sophomore album. This album gives indication of positive vibrations throughout the entire album, lacking of degenerating lyrics and ego driven mind frame. The acoustic arrangements display the artists genuine intentions to bring this message across without bias to musical genre or class. This is an album sure to gain the respect of many, even those not familiar with roots reggae music. Definitely an album worth the dollar.

XLR8R Magazine Review:

Humble is the most requested Canadian artist on my radio program, Rebel Music. His voice is unique, his songwriting is traditionally rootsy but utterly modern and provocative. It is quite possible that the young and talented Humble is the Canadian artist most likely to succeed outside Canada. His music blazes a fire wherever he goes, he performs all over the world and women swoon. Need I say more?

EXCO LEVI BIO

Exco LeviExco Levi, was born Wayne Ford Levy on June 7, 1981 in Manchester and grew up in Clarendon, Jamaica. Singing is in Wayne’s blood as his father was also an artist and sound system DJ.

Exco’s musical tastes include listening to and appreciating the lyricism and talent of the late Garnet Silk, Bob Marley and Peter Tosh as well as contemporaries like Sizzla Kolonji. Through the work of these artists he has been able to develop his own unique sound which emanates deep respect for the musical icons who paved the way. Wayne’s talents also extend to recording and performing audio engineering tasks in studio. He credits this to his time spent at the Stineam and Triple Platinum Recoding Studios while living in Jamaica.

Exco Levi quickly took hold of the Canadian reggae music scene after emigrating in 2005. His strong writing skills complement his lyrical prowess and delivery. He continues to show his range and musical intellect through songs like the Canadian Anthem, “Oh Canada”, the nostalgic “Sweet Jamaica” and the love ballad “Same ole Words”. His songs have given voice to a nation and helped forge an entirely new style of music and rhythm that is revolutionary, fiery, scathing, loving and stinging.

His songs are just as potent on his lips as they are on his Cds. Exco’s ability to quickly engage and convince his audience makes him very appealing. This has led to him being in high demand for colourful collaborations. He has worked with top Djs and promoters worldwide. This musical “Midas” turns any song he touches to pure gold.

Exco’s management team has been NCF Productions since December 2010. He currently works with Penthouse Records and Jukeboxx Music. He has recently released two blazing hot singles ‘Mr. Hammer” on NCF and the self love anthem “Bleaching shop” on the Penthouse label, which has been topping charts globally. Both songs have been receiving major airplay by local and overseas DJs. He is currently in production for his debut album project with Penthouse Records.

Exco is a determined artist with the technical skills and performance style that is bound to give him more and more recognition. He is on his way to becoming a household name, one synonymous with quality and musical excellence. He is definitely the artist to watch!
